last stand

standing awkward shaking

violent at the knees,

the last stand for nature’s

last lost progeny

in borrowed robes,

a testimony left untold

and carried on a zephyr

words, they drip like venom

from your acid tongue,

as the castles that we built

all come undone

by the rising tide,

and if i make it out alive

i hope i can rebuild them
